For artists Bex Massey, Sarah Roberts and Necole Schmitz making and materiality is essential to their practices. With this in mind they have come together for a weeklong residency in the former Shoeworld in London’s Chrisp Street Market. Given Shoeworld’s impending redevelopment, this temporary interior offers the artists an opportunity to produce site specific works which question the infrastructure, architecture, local history and changing nature of chrisp street and places like it.

Each artist is concerned with the making processes surrounding sculpture and installation. The way in which they manifest this is as similar as it is different. As the artists gather materials, data and narratives from the surrounding area, viewers can watch the dialogue developing between the makers, works and space through portals in the shop front window for the duration of the residency. They are then invited to return to explore the chambers hidden beneath the showroom and see what Massey, Roberts and Schmitz have uncovered, dissected, subverted and redirected during this immersive residency.
