About

This retrospective is an opportunity to view the work of Mark Edgar-Evans produced over the previous twenty years. Approximately seventy of Mark's remarkable abstract paintings, collage and assemblage will be on display at the Embassy Tea Gallery from December 15th to 21st.All the work is available for purchase.

Mark Edgar-Evans had been teaching primary school children in Westminster for more than twenty years when he left the profession in 1997 to return to an old path of unfinished business. Way back In 1968 Edgar-Evans was an eighteen year old tank gunner stranded with the Royal Armoured Corps on the frozen Cold War landscape of Northern Germany. As a consequence of the mind-numbing tedium, the young trooper discovered colour, painting and 'cut and paste. During what was virtually unlimited passages of Government subsidised free time Edgar-Evans quickly developed his self-taught art education but never took it any further after the army. It was only during the years as a fledgling father showing his kids what they could do with paper and and a pair scissors did he begin to create pictures again.

His work concentrates on his emotional response to events from his life which are often significant, such as his own adoption as a four year old child; but much of his work exhibits a great deal of the happiness he experienced watching three daughters grow up which he has successfully demonstrated in his joyful use of colour. MCB Magazine accurately summarised the paintings and collages of Edgar-Evans, " If the winter blues get you down, vibrant colours that take the mind and imagination beyond the grey outdoors maybe just what you need. Walking into an exhibition of Mark Edgar-Evans is a splendid antidote to the wet day outside. His work is a delight."

As the date of Edgar-Evans offical retirement approaches it coincides with the very last public exhibition of art at the historic Embassy Tea Gallery in Bankside Southwark which is to be closed down and handed over to the property developers soon after. http://www.markedgarevans.com

D. John Wood, the editor of 'Paintings & Prints 2' wrote of Mark Edgar-Evans work,  "I still do not pretend to undertand all art, abstract is no exception, however I do know what I like and I like Mark's paintings, there is a lot of thought and depth of colour in them. If you like something different then I recommend that you visit his exhibition."
