New Work by Nina and Guy Royle
About
Nina strives to capture and understand the complex relationship that exits between her thoughts, gestures and surrounding environment. Furthermore, they relate the poetics observed in everyday life and how they link with broader questions about nature, space, time and change.
The series of paintings on show stem from the idea of a line; be that painted, thought or travelled. The line is a thread that joins composition elements together as if they are a constellation. It loops around to make a moon, it divides a painting to make a window frame and when criss-crossed, it becomes the bare branches of trees in winter
Since the 1980's Guy has primarily worked as a jeweller with interests in printmaking and sculpture. By using the simplest of tools and methods he works mainly with sheet silver and gold which he cuts,
bends and forms, while being aware of the natural characteristics of the material. To compliment this metal work he also uses found pebbles and semi-precious stones which he grinds and shapes into beads. “So wonderfully wearable”. Guy has been a favourite maker with the gallery for many years.
