About
Like many industries, the future of art is going through unprecedented change. The premise of lockdown and public restrictions around mass gatherings, has forced the art industry to completely rethink the gallery and exhibition experience. No longer can the industry rely on large scale public events to display works. Instead, one can expect a new normal, whereby art is presented thoughtfully and seamlessly both in the digital and physical world. The Queen & Culture Exhibition offers spectators this blended experience, exploring Endless’ latest ‘Lizzy Vuitton’ works. The Lizzy Vuitton artwork was recently featured in the Financial Times' How To Spend It supplement. In addition to this, spectators will also find a selection of other popular and iconic works from the artist based around the current climate.
The “Lizzy Vuitton” portrait is undoubtedly Endless’ most popular creation. Much of this artists’ work is derived from social observations, with topics such as branding, advertising, wealth and religion influencing heavily throughout. In 2012 Endless set out to create a piece depicting the British monarchy infused with his ‘brand worship’ mantra. Having regarded the Queen as “the ultimate fashion icon”, Endless wanted to create a piece in celebration, with a nod to her most iconic styling. Keeping in line with his street-art aesthetic, he dressed the Queen with a branded fur shawl, symbolising the summit of luxury, power and wealth. It was out of this that ‘Lizzy Vuitton’ was immortalised. Endless was inspired by a photograph of Queen Elizabeth II, taken by artist Chris Levine in 2004, which he used as his reference. Levine was commissioned by the Jersey Heritage Trust to create a portrait of the Queen, to mark 800 years of allegiance to the crown by the Island of Jersey. Levine is a fan of Endless’ work and admires the artists’ adaptation of the photo.
