The Portrait is Political explores how portraiture can make a political impact. The first step in social justice is validation of the individual; the portrait is a key means of recognizing individual lives.

About

Jasmine Blooms At Night is a solo exhibition of jewel-like paintings by Jaishri Abichandani portraying South Asian American feminists in the Brooklyn community. Dear Los Angeles, Love, Brooklyn is a  series of photographic portraits by Texas Isaiah, who invited his sitters to participate in the making process; it aims to create a space for dialogue about legacy, self-empowerment, emotional justice, protection, and topophilia. The Other Is You: Brooklyn Queer Portraiture, curated by Liz Collins with assistant curators Anna Parisi and Sol Nova, is an exhibition of portraits by over 35 LGBTQ Brooklyn artists, displayed salon style on the large center wall of BRIC’s gallery.
