Lucy Bird

Title of the work: Wishful Thinking

Short description: This work was originally conceived whilst on a residency in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland. While speaking to the residents of Seyðisfjörður I noticed that despite feeling proud and inspired by the Icelandic landscape, people often felt limited by it too. The word Ósk in Icelandic means to wish. The act of wishful thinking felt for me to part of the landscape in Seyðisfjörður, as its magical qualities encouraged people to dream beyond the limitations of location. The large silver letters made from basic tin foil, almost seem to sparkle when they catch light, and perhaps encourage passers by to contemplate what they wish for.
