About

Join us for a talk about the photographic medium and its performative nature by Katy Hundertmark and Dr. Patricia Allmer. During this talk Hundertmark will introduce her work and ongoing research into modes of constructing images within the gallery space, while having a closer look at the history of the staged photograph and it´s entanglements within theatre, moving image and literature. Hundertmark graduated from the Glasgow School of Art with a Master of Letters in Photography and Moving Image in 2016 and has developed a specific interest in the threshold of the visual and performing arts. Her work often takes the shape of installations examining the tension between the still, the staged, the real and the constructed through photography, sculpture, film and performance. Recent exhibitions include ‘Projects 18: Fresh Focus’ at Stills Centre For Photography and  Trembling´ a solo show at DOK Artist Space in Leith

Patricia Allmer is a leading scholar of surrealism. Her books include Lee Miller: Photography, Surrealism, and Beyond (MUP, 2016), René Magritte: Beyond Painting (MUP, 2009), and a biography, René Magritte (Reaktion Press, 2019); and the edited volume Intersections: Women Artists/Surrealism/Modernism (MUP, 2016). She curated 4 saints in 3 acts: A Snapshot of the American Avant-Garde (2017; Manchester University Press) and Taking Shots: The Photography of William S. Burroughs (2014; Prestel), both at The Photographers’ Gallery, and the groundbreaking Angels of Anarchy: Women Artists and Surrealism (Manchester Art Gallery, 2009; Prestel). She has lectured at London’s Freud Museum (2016), The Hepworth (2018), and Princeton University (2018), and was the guest speaker for the 2017-18 Chaire Internationale Émile Bernheim programme in Brussels. Patricia is Senior Lecturer and the Director of Research
