A patchwork of expression
About
The Paper Quilt Project is a living exhibition in which a community art piece is created while on display in the gallery. This project has been designed in response to the two adjoining exhibitions; Bellwethers and Joshua Donkor & Lela Harris. Both exhibitions discuss experiences of marginalized identity through distinct creative practices and mediums. The Paper Quilt Project brings these two conversations together through the voices of marginalized people in our local community.
Beginning as a room of blank paper, the artwork will slowly evolve as individuals fill their square in artist-led workshops. Reflecting on themes of fragility, survival, belonging, and home, the paper quilt represents the strength in connecting with one another in vulnerable, heartfelt and meaningful ways. Fragile by nature, the paper quilt reminds us of the quiet resilience in our identities and sense of belonging.
