The Outside World Presents…'HIRE ME', an exhibition of graphic works by NATALIE BROWN, POOJA SOKHAL, DONYA RODNEY, FILOMON ARAIA GHEREZGHER AND DESERIE MALENI 28TH May 2009 Opening 6 -9 pm The Outside World is pleased to presents…'HIRE ME' is a very exciting new exhibition by graduating students from The University of East London. The five young artists have all studied Graphic Arts together over the last three years and have chosen this moment of their final degree show to collaborate and to mark the start of their careers as artists. Although their backgrounds and influences are very different but they share one overriding passion, and that is to communicate through their chosen art form. At the centre of this for all five is their initial love of drawing which has led each of them to pursue its many forms and varied visual strands. All five artists are interested in the medium of print whether it be in photography, digital imagery, the more traditional process of screen printing, or even a combination of all of these - culminating in a rich collage of image and material. The works in ‘HIRE ME,' stem from many diverse places for these young artists. Cultural references, pains remembered, joys found, experiences gained through life and love or strength attained through spiritual belief. The inner journey, Emotional states of being. Exploration of the routes from happiness to sadness. The manipulation of new materials and media and how these can translate and communicate lived experience and sensualities. Their visual references are many and varied - themes of transformation and change - how myth and legend might transpose itself to the modern instant. Ideas of communication and means of story telling. Sharing and shared experience is a theme that runs through the group as a whole. This combined with their passion for the making of the work itself can only be celebrated and congratulated at the start of what promises to be five promising careers. C.A.Halpin. May 2009
