The Other Wedding Banquet, takes a deep dive into Taiwanese culture, non-traditional wedding celebration, and the evolving narrative around ceremonies once reserved exclusively for the "Confusian family". The exhibition will showcase installations of soft sculptures and paper-cut works. UngCha incorporates dark humor and twists into his pieces, focusing on gender, traditional values, and cultural conflicts, prompting audiences to contemplate the social challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community from past to present. In the context of 2024, the exhibition raises questions about the true equality of gender diversity.

This will be UngCha's debut solo exhibition at the gallery and in New York City. Opening on Saturday, June 1st, to coincide with the beginning of pride month, the show will feature an interactive banquet in the main gallery, a bridal chamber in the back gallery, and a screening of Ang Lee's classic film The Wedding Banquet in the sculpture garden.
