NET WT. is an all-girl grassroots collective hailing from Edinburgh, who are taking over a shop in Kentish Town, London. The space will be both a working studio and a place for the public to peruse wondrous art and design objects.
About
An open studio policy means we will be around daily for the public to drop in and see our creations in progress. We’ve got drinks, snacks, art, great design and beautiful printed matter to browse and purchase. Alongside our own work, we plan to showcase the creamiest of the Scottish creative crop, bringing you a selection of work from Edinburgh and beyond.
Playing publishing house, we will release two publications during our stay: an open call zine and a book documenting the project.
The Open Studio aims to create a venue that bridges the gap between commercial design space and artist’s studio. Joining together work and display spaces, our project bypasses the distance that established art institutions and retailers maintain through presenting work in isolation from the studio.
We aim to cultivate direct links between makers and audiences. Our work is rooted in an appreciation of the hand-made and quality over quantity. Fine art practice does not need to be distinct from design and commerce. Our project attempts to re-address the gap between art-school idealism and reality of being a practising creative.
Each member of NET WT. is based in a different discipline: Mina in Painting, Sarah in Fashion, Eden in Photography, and Gemma in Intermedia. We share an interest in the hand-made and flirting with each other’s media.
