About

The Minories Makers Market Friday 5 December and Saturday 6 December

We are planning a much larger Event this year, developing from our previous Easter and Christmas Art & Design Fairs. The Minories Makers Market will be held over two days on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th December in the beautiful Ballroom and other adjacent spaces upstairs, with the extended Christmas Shop downstairs and local producers and crafts people showcasing their work and skills with demonstrations around the building. Our stallholders are all artists, makers and traders who have made and produced their own unique work. We are joined by local artists, creatives and local food and drink producers all who have been carefully selected for the pride, imagination and care they take in their work. There will also be lovely festive food and drink in our Garden Café, workshops, live music and of course exciting and interesting exhibitions in place across our galleries.

Events and activities will take place in areas of The Minories to regularly open to the public including the upstairs studio areas used by our postgraduate students and our reference library. Our MA Sculptural Practice students will be displaying and selling their work and working in their creative space. Greyfriars Books – The Colchester Bookshop - will be taking over our library space and our Art Design and the Book student’s studio area will be home to The Society of Book Binders who will be demonstrating Book Binding and restoration. We will also be joined by local author and Creative Anita Belli .

The demonstrations continue with Kirsty Ellis from Kirsty MC Designs who will be joining us with her spinning wheel and Charmaine McKissock who will be creating festive hedgerow wreathes.

On Saturday the Boxted Methodist Silver Band and the children of Broomgrove Infant School singing and playing Christmas songs and Carols from the folly in our beautiful walled garden. What a magical way to start your Christmas.

Saturday 6 December this year shares Small Business Saturday which exists to support, inspire and
promote small businesses on the 6th December and beyond. There are many other small businesses in Colchester taking part that help to make our town the special place that it is. By doing your Christmas shopping at a small business not only will you be supporting independent businesses but you will be getting a special, different and often unique gift.
