Growing up in the North East with its industrial landscapes and contrasting hills and moorland inspired Bowman’s early interest in painting.
About
Throughout his university and working life, he has created work in diverse media; oils, watercolour, ceramics and most recently, etching.
Using 3D mixed media, Bowman exhibits unusual narratives based on rock faces and cliffs, incorporating hidden images and miniature tableaux. His architectural training has given him a great love of model making and an affinity for structural form which inform his art.
His most recent ceramic works include studies of monk-like figures that incorporate elements of mystery and uncertainty. These work in contrast to the simplicity of the architectural structures, unusual clock pieces and traditional pots decorated with landscapes and figures.
Alongside this body of work, the artist is etching a series of prints. He creates intricate woodland and mountain scenes, contrasted with urban and industrial landscapes, enjoying the fine detail that this medium can produce. Rural, mountainous landscapes continue to be an important source of inspiration. Source materials include personal archived photographs taken in the British Isles and abroad.
