German artist Georg Meyer-Wiel launches his first monograph The Life Studies alongside an exhibition of his portraits spanning 15 years of studying and drawing the male form.
About
On Saturday 12th November, German artist Georg Meyer-Wiel will be launching his first monograph The Life Studies alongside an exhibition of his portraits spanning 15 years of studying and drawing the male form.
Georg Meyer-Wiel is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work encompasses painting, drawing, photography and sculpture, abstract and figurative, using ink, acrylic paints and various natural materials. Emotionally driven, he describes his work as a direct physical and visceral response to the world that surrounds him, with the outcome ranging from bold paintings to fragile drawings.
While his paintings tend to be primarily abstract, his drawings, as illustrated in the exhibition and accompanying book, gravitate towards portraits and nudes of men - dancers, athletes and boxers – whose physicality and relationship with movement are an integral part of their beings. Capturing facets of their masculinity, the life studies become a visual diary, an intimate record of encounters, conversations, places and adventures.
The Life Studies is published by Bruno Gmünder in the Portfolio1000 series
