An evening to celebrate the launch of Magnus Irvin's book, “Cancer Times”, followed by a short programme of artistic performances.
About
Magnus Irvin is a British artist whose work reflects an interest in institutions such as the seaside, music halls, pub culture, street furniture, and ectoplasm.
His work synthesises a wide variety of media including film, printmaking, performance, cardboard sculpture, cakes and drawings.

Doors 6.30 pm
First Half 7 pm - 7.30 pm
The first half of the evening will feature selected readings from "Cancer Times" which relates the author's experiences following prostate cancer diagnosis in 2012. The book explores aspects of treatment and his route through the often absurd and alien world of the hospital system. Sometimes harrowing but also darkly funny the book is intended to help men and their families deal with this disease. The book will be available to purchase and all profits go to Prostate Cancer UK.
Interval 7.30 pm - 8.00 pm
Second Half 8.00 pm - 8.40 pm
The second half will give the audience a chance to witness real, live performance art guaranteed to thrill and confuse in equal measure. Comprising film, music, dance, projections, re-enactments and seagulls, the evening has much to promise. Magnus Irvin is joined by members of his band, The Twits, who have been playing together for over 40 years. It is hoped that by now they know what they are doing – but they don't.
Irvin says "I like to make a mess and lots of noise. For many years I have performed in front of live audiences exploring the dividing line between performance and entertainment. Most performances are rather boring and entertainment isn't art. Or is it? At the Bermondsey Project Space, The Twits and I will allow the audience to make their own decision. Also, I hope to win the Turner prize now that pensioners are eligible. "
