About

The House of Bandits - an experiential art and fashion takeover by Sarabande Foundation - will launch in Mayfair on Wednesday 7 October. The Foundation, established by Lee Alexander McQueen, supports and promotes fearless creative talent, and the store and gallery space will sell work by a selection of the 100 artists and designers that the Foundation has supported to date. Foundation ambassador, journalist Tim Blanks coined the term ‘Sarabandits’ for the Foundation’s ‘renegade’ alumni and this led to the name of the project.

The temporary space on Vigo Street, adjoined to the Burberry Regent Street store, will be filled with the hottest visual art, fashion, craft, photography, ceramics, jewellery and more – to represent the full breadth of creativity that Sarabande supports. And for those who are unable to visit the store in person, all artworks and designs will be available to buy online at www.sarabandefoundation.org. Burberry has donated the space as part of its commitment to supporting and providing access to creative communities.

Opening to coincide with Frieze Week, and running up to Christmas, highlights will include:

·      A curated selection of archive pieces by Craig Green including pieces developed in collaboration with Sarabande artist Saelia Aparicio.

·      Colourful multi-media site-specific installations by artist Joshua Beaty, which customers and passers-by can watch him build from early October. He will also lead an alternative wreath-making workshop in the run up to Christmas.

·      ‘Meet the artist’ events with master engraver Castro Smith talking about his remarkable jewellery techniques and taking orders and discussing designs as he engraves.

·      Spectacular living displays by tech couturiers Auroboros – their exquisite garments will bloom and grow with neon crystals over the course of a week.

·      New products are being created especially for the shop by Camilla Hanney, John Alexander Skelton, Stefan Cooke, Sam Rock and Saelia Aparacio.

·      Sets of plates including designs by Jake Chapman and Sir Ridley Scott and a silver moth pin whose proceeds benefit the Foundation will also be on sale.

·      And ‘special guest’ shop assistants will ‘takeover’ the store, announced as it happens on Sarabande’s social media.

·      People will also be able to attend small workshops, events and classes in a dedicated workshop space above the store.

As well as the chance to buy the best new contemporary art, there will be specially-commissioned fashion and accessories from Sarabande alumni, such as John Alexander Skelton, Stefan Cooke and Roberts Wood.
