About

The game doesn’t start until you say YES is a series of digital prints and an installation by Ottawa artist Alana Latincic. She has recently completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Ottawa specializing in photography, and primarily explores video game culture through her artwork.

This series erases the utility of video game consoles through the manipulation and abstraction of their images – opting instead to focus on the implicit history and value of these objects from both a personal and cultural perspective. Alana is also fascinated by the notion of the “protagonist” and how video game paraphernalia has the power to invoke a sense of responsibility in the player – and here by extension, the viewer – to actively engage in the narrative being presented and drive it forward to completion. Her installation work begins to explore this phenomenon, asking the viewer to take the controller and make interventions in the artwork to create new endings for the piece.
