About
The Figure Making and Meaning
4 day Figurative Clay Modelling Course with sculptor Kenny Hunter
at Powderhall Bronze Foundry, Edinburgh
Kenny Hunter has public art works sited in the UK and abroad, he exhibits internationally and is currently also a Lecturer in Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art.
Kenny will lead this extended 4-day Figurative clay-modelling course, during the course he will discuss the narrative possibilities of the human figure in sculpture. This will be an opportunity to develop your technical ability in clay modelling and creative thinking about figurative sculpture.
Kenny will open this course on Tuesday 11th Sept with an artists talk introducing contemporary approaches to the figure in sculpture, followed by Q’s & A’s about making and process. In the afternoon there will be a Foundry Tour when students will see the different stages of Bronze sculpture production from Mould making to the Waxes, the Bronze Pour and finally Finishing and Patinating a sculpture.
Students will be invited to do some research, to decide upon a pose for their clay model and provide initial sketches / ideas prior to the clay workshops commencing on Wednesday so that an armature can be made.
The clay workshops will be run on Wednesday 12th Thursday 13th and Friday 14th of September from 10 – 4pm
In discussion with Kenny and fellow students you will be encouraged to develop your own response to the figure and to think about how meaning can be embedded in the artwork through subject, scale, surface and materials. The workshops will begin with a morning session assessing initial ideas and armature building. The rest of the course will be taken up with the development of your work in clay with support from the tutor.
This complete four day course, is open to beginners and experienced sculptors and places will be limited to 10.
All materials will be provided and there will be a lovely lunch with options for Vegan and Vegetarian diets provided by ‘MILK’ Edinburgh www.cafemilk.co.uk each day.
There will also be a 15% discount on subsequent Foundry Services such as mould making or casting for course students.
Powderhall Bronze can advise on accommodation in Edinburgh if required.
