Art Licks Weekend 2019: Interdependence
17 Oct 2019 – 20 Oct 2019
London
London, United Kingdom
The Edition Residencies is a collaborative project by four artist friends – Caitlin Akers, Nora Schmel, Klara Vith and Lena Wurz, connected by London but currently living and working in different cities. The project was formed in 2017 over 2-4-1 cocktails in the Peckham Pelican.
The aim of the project was to create an artist residency that could take the group to one another’s hometowns so that they might respond to these visits in a playful and spontaneous way and create new work together.
With each residency, the group react to the location and the conversations that they have had. They set tasks for one another and then these become part of the themes that to work with. Time constraints and facilities at hand decide what form the work will take.
The residency has a fluid approach and the group collaborate with other artist friends with each new project.
For the Art Licks Weekend Edition Residencies will be showcasing their outcomes from all three residencies so far.
The audience is invited to take part in a series of task-based exercises. These take the form of recordings of the artists as talking heads. This set up will reflect a two or three-way conversation via video chats, which is a platform Edition Residencies have started to use in order to have face to face group discussions, a necessity of a modern friendship, that allows them to sustain their activities long distance.
On Saturday afternoon Edition Residencies will be hosting a friendly social in the spirit of the residencies. There will be drinks and some local dishes from their respective countries to sample. The event will be a chance for audience members to come and view the work, meet, and have a chat with about the project face to face. See more details for the event here.
