Introduction to concepts at the heart of contemporary sculptural art processes.
About
This experimental workshop will introduce you to concepts at the heart of contemporary sculptural practice, focussing on process and assemblage. In the first session Rachel Adams will introduce you to non-traditional sculptural materials and techniques such as tie-dye, macramé, and working with everyday found materials which you’ll use the following week to construct sculptural assemblages. Rachel will then show you how the rules of Ikebana – Japanese flower arranging –can be used as a way of constructing and building your assemblages.

Rachel Adams’ work explores the relationship between furniture design, sculptural forms and decorative craft techniques, questioning the historical and cultural value of materials. Her objects combine a variety of traditional and DIY methods including macramé and tie-dye with contemporary commercial techniques such as laser cutting and vinyl printing. A constant source of inspiration the relationship of an object to a real or a sculpted human body: be that furniture, clothing or plinths.
