An exhibition exploring all things deadly, deathly and undead

About

Sweet ‘Art are thrilled to invite you to The Death of Art, our next multi-disciplinary art exhibition, showcasing the work of over 30 visual artists. The exhibition, running over the Halloween period, is guaranteed to be terrifyingly good. No tombstone has been left unturned in selecting artists whose works explore themes including death across cultures, grief and celebration of life, burial and resurrection and visions of the afterlife. Artistic offerings will pay homage to dead artists and dead art practice, and explore the ‘death of art’ in relation to art historical and cultural relevance.

The exhibition will take place in Vout-O-Reenees Stash Gallery and the opening reception and costume party will be hosted in the aptly decadent Vout-O-Reenees arts members club, housed in the crypt of a gothic church.  Enjoy yourself to death at the opening reception on 17 October where you can meet the artists, enjoy a glass of wine in beautiful surroundings and view the most wonderfully weird, gloriously gory and mercilessly macabre artworks.

Then join us again if you dare on 2 November for our Death of Art costume party for an evening of art, cocktails, spooky performance and storytelling, music and a sweet treat gory banquet!  Create your own exquisite corpse while enjoying a poisonous cocktail; hear tales of murderous artists and deadly artworks by candlelight, courtesy of the talented Laura Sampson; feast on the entrails of Gilbert & George at our gloriously gory buffet; and then cower in abject terror from performances from Swing Out & Spooky and Marnie Scarlet! Very fancy dress will be mandatory at pain of death. With prizes for the best costumes sponsored by Death’s Door Spirits, Great Art, Punky Pins and Little Red Tarot, you’ll want to look your worst. Think zombie Picasso; think ghostly Van Gogh. Come as horrifying artworks, dead and decaying artists, and murderous makers. You should be dying to come!
