About
Chief Curator Vincent Honoré reveals the stories behind the David Roberts Collection, a constantly evolving body of over 2,000 works by 700 iconic and emerging artists. He discusses the material and intellectual challenges of looking after a vast number of diverse artworks – some extremely fragile, some mammoth in scale – as they circulate to exhibitions at museums around the world.
Over the last 10 years, Honoré has engaged critically with the collection as an “archive of forms and concepts”. Works from the Collection have been activated in different exhibitions at DRAF and internationally: performing in a cabaret, haunting a ghost story, or as characters in a novel.
He has commissioned writers to study individual works, from the artist Hannah Black to design critic Emily King to curator Tom Morton, through DRAF’s unique ‘Study’ series. In contrast to the spectacle and acceleration of the art world, the series invites the viewer to focus and “ to enter into a dialogue with the work, to take up multiple viewpoints and to engage with the artwork by, at least, spending some time with it.”
Browse ‘Study’ leaflets online here (http://davidrobertsartfoundation.com/resources/ ) to learn more about works by Victor Man, Carole Bove, Bruce McLean, Martin Boyce, Boyle Family, Michael Simpson, Yto Barrada, Sterling Ruby, Ida Applebroog, Andreas Slominski, Etel Adnan, Phillip Guston, Fiona Banner, Rosemarie Trockel, Charles Avery and Huma Bhabha.
