About
This exhibition celebrates the range of approaches taken to depicting the countryside in the early post-war period, most of the locations are within England but include France and Spain. All the artworks are original, ranging from oil paintings and watercolours to sketches and limited edition prints. The collection includes distinctive work by John Piper and Rowland Suddaby, and over 20 beautiful prints by Robert Tavener.
The nearest location to Malvern which John Piper depicted is Eastnor Castle, just over the Malvern Hills in Herefordshire. Two screenprints were produced, both in 1983, the first labelled Eastnor Castle, Hereford and the second Eastnor Castle issued as part of an Eightieth Anniversary Portfolio in a distinctive blue. We have been able to display both of these fabulous screenprints in this exhibition - which is rare - if not unique!
