30 years after the end of the Soviet Union, the Gropius Bau presents an extensive group exhibition from the holdings of the Ludwig Collection from six international museums.
About
Peter and Irene Ludwig were among the first collectors worldwide to collect US and Soviet art at the same time. The exhibition enables the critical juxtaposition of works from both camps of the East-West conflict and examines how artists during the Cold War reacted to political and aesthetic questions of their epoch and negotiated ideas of individual and social freedom.
Around 125 works by over 80 artists will be shown, including Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Ilja Kabakov, Erik Bulatov, Jo Baer, Lee Lozano, Jackson Pollock, Helen Frankenthaler, Viktor Pivovarov, Natalja Nesterova and Ivan Čujkov.
