A Japanese-born artist Atsuko Saito exhibits approximately forty artworks of watercolours and Japanese paintings, depicting delightful beauty and incongruity found in everyday life

About

Atsuko Saito is a watercolour and Japanese-painting artist based in London. The Japan-born artist has lived in north London since 2017. Her art works have been selected for exhibitions, such as:  Sunday Times Watercolours Exhibition, Royal Institute of Painters Water Colours Exhibition, Society of Women Artists Exhibition and many more.

Upon winning the ‘Simon Callow Award’ in the Hampstead Summer Festival, Atsuko will now be exhibiting her artworks in her own solo show. The solo show will be held the Hamstead School of Art with approximately forty artworks on display.

Atsuko holds a varied portfolio containing still-lifes, interiorscape, clothing and flower paintings by watercolour; utilising distinct types of Japanese brushes, for which she has specially trained in Japan, to depict objects in great detail.

The exhibition also includes Japanese paintings, which have been sent from Japan for the occasion. The exceptionality of these paintings is in the traditional materials, from Japanese papers to specially sourced, crushed minerals for the paint. The special colour pigments confer an exceptional texture to the paintings. It gives luminosity and vibrant colours, as well all the spontaneity of it all. It can bring different results that would be equally mesmerizing and releasing a sense of serenity.

Atsuko expresses the beauty she finds amid mundane life. Flower vases in front of wallpapers, clothes scattered on floor; these are the scenes that inspire her and evoke her to create.

Works from a series ‘Unnecessary Necessities’ will be shown in the exhibition. In this series, Atsuko explores a theme, which is related to excess consumption of unnecessary objects and how we are all slaves to materialism.

Bursting with colour, this show is a debut solo-exhibition that presents Atsuko’ reflective, tranquil and touching view of the present day.
