About

These small gouaches, painted on translucent drafting film and mounted over grey card, isolate and loosely transcribe elements from old master paintings and other source material including film stills, newspaper photographs, and illustrations from vintage meteorology textbooks.

Accompanying the paintings are sculptures in porcelain based on rock formations depicted in Renaissance paintings. Jagged rock formations and sinister caves presented threats and provided refuge to travellers, and so take a dualistic role in the interpretation of the works.

These portrayals of storms and rocks are metaphors for the trials of human existence.
