For a week, Portsmouth will have a means of communication across borders through an exchange of messages with UK detention centres, which will later form a sound artwork, as part of The Channel installation.

About

The Channel is an installation that enables you to communicate across borders. From Portsmouth, we will connect with people
indefinitely detained in UK immigration removal centres via the sculpture, which resembles an old-fashioned phone box. You are invited to listen to messages sent by real people who are in detention centres throughout the week and respond to the individuals with your own questions and thoughts. The phone booth enables an exchange of messages between Portsmouth and UK detention centres, which will later form a sound artwork.

The installation will be placed in Eldon Building, University of Portsmouth, PO1 2DJ, and it will be open for visiting between Saturday 19 – Wednesday 23 October, 11:00am - 5:00pm.

An introductory talk will take place ahead of The Channel installation, on the subject of Unlocking Immigration Detention. Click the link to find out more and book your attendance.
