CITY & NATURE

The Building Site pavilion will feature an eclectic mix of performers, who will share their perspectives of urbanisation and its relationships and effects on nature. This is a great opportunity to experience an amazing selection of texts by writers, rappers, poets, scientists and many more.

Bring your friends, lovers and foes.
Tell us what city and nature means to you.
Share your tales of urban landscape.
Write a sentence or two in the forest with us.

Heartspoken Word is a year-old intimate Spoken Word Poetry & Open Mic Night that sprouted from the ‘Ziferblat’ cafe in Shoreditch. It has shared its podium with both established and amateur poets. Their nights have allow readers to be carried away in their stream of consciousness, exploring topics such as ‘Exploration’, ‘Impressions’, ‘Healing’ and ‘Time of Changes’
Extra Second London is a themed spoken word poetry/discussion night held on the last Saturday of every month in the Chapel at the Gallery Cafe in Bethnal Green. Each event includes featured performers, an open mic and a round table audience discussion on the theme for the month. Recent themes have included 'masculinity', 'identity' and 'social class'.

The Building Site is an urban intervention and design installation at the London Festival of Architecture. It questions the changing ownership of public space in London and invites to reflect on the impact of rapid urbanization on local communities and natural ecosystems. The installation occupies a significant piece of public space to create a new ‘building site’—a signature mark for London in transition. However, fenced off with construction site hoarding, The Building Site provides an unexpected forest-like experience inside.

We invite you to visit this hidden experimental garden in the heart of London and connect with the power of nature. Each weekend, The Building Site will host poetry readings, music performances, video screening, and debates. During these events, visitors will have a chance to explore the diverse and unique interpretations of human relation to nature.
