This collection of work by 8 different photographers represents and focuses on individual interpretations of the title: The Bodies That Weren't Ours. The work combines various photographic approaches such as documentary, studio and found imagery to create a range of artistic interpretations portraying a disenfranchised body, whether literally or figuratively. The photographers have used this title to create a piece that both suits and challenges their photographic style, and the exhibition provides an overview of these disparate works. The series includes looking into the life of, and empathising with, a painter who has lost her sight; the atmosphere at various nightclubs and how this can represent losing yourself in a certain moment; found imagery and studio images of people devoid of facial features; and the idea of warping and distorting a face to make it appear obscure and unrecognisable. These factors, among other analyses of the title, show the diverse way in which the artists have responded to the stimulus. An important feature within the exhibition is the use of props to emphasise meaning, making use of the exhibition space to bring the subtleties of the work to life in a more interactive and visually appealing way.
