About

Hatchspace is pleased to announce an exhibition showcasing a group of emerging artists which have been selected and co-curated by Theresa Bruno and Lucy Lopez. The show has been loosely themed around the concept of ‘The Artist'. Today's art world exists as a global commercialised network where the artists themselves are not always the spotlight of their own shows. Art is a system which is supported by dealers, curators, editors, collectors so it is interesting to explore the idea of how/where/why artists exist today. The artists themselves have been given the opportunity to respond to this theme in the broadest sense and the exhibition is a collection of their experiments. Most of the artists in the exhibition itself are recent graduates of London and pressure to sell is evident and deemed as a measure of being ‘successful'. This show has been orchestrated against that ideology; it is a space where artists are encouraged to explore artistic freedom and exhibit their exploratory successes and failures over producing objects that are ready for sale. For this reason the curators have tried to keep the theme as loose as possible, giving the artist the reins on what to make/explore within their language. We actively encourage the audience to partake in the conversation whilst visiting the gallery and welcome you to approach/contact any artists to talk about their work.
