About

Unfortunately, this content is currently only available in German.

As part of the European Days of Arts and Crafts (ETAK), the exhibition brings together artisans from Berlin and Paris. The rotating exhibition in the two cities showcases the wide range of craftsmanship and creativity and provides an inventory of contemporary arts and crafts in both capitals. From unusual furniture and delicate jewelry to artfully designed ceramics, the diversity of the exhibits demonstrates that arts and crafts extend far beyond a sense of tradition.

Since 1980, Paris and Berlin have been linked by a Chamber of Crafts partnership, strengthening Franco-German friendship and a shared European identity. In this spirit, the exhibition "The Art of Making 2025: Arts and Crafts & Design from Paris and Berlin" is being organized by the Berlin Chamber of Crafts in cooperation with the Paris/Île-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Crafts (Chambre de métiers et de l'artisanat Île-de-France) and the Museum of Decorative Arts of the Berlin State Museums. The aim is to convey and promote valuable craftsmanship knowledge in its diverse forms, to generate new impetus, and to foster mutual inspiration and understanding.

Arts and crafts competition honors outstanding works

While 39 objects from various fields such as jewelry, fashion, and sculpture were curated in Paris, a jury selected the Berlin exhibits through a competition in which Berlin-based artisans from all disciplines participated between July 1 and September 30, 2024. 28 works were selected to be featured in the exhibition.

Berliner Volksbank supported the competition with a total of 15,000 euros in prize money. The patron was Joe Chialo, Berlin's Senator for Culture and Social Cohesion.
