Including work gathered from students in 34 different schools and 5 community centers across Brooklyn, spanning ages 5 – 18, WINDOWS: Framing the Future is an authentic glimpse into how these growing individuals view the world and envision their future.
About
Each work is a window into the lives of the students who created it, revealing what is important to them and the local communities of which they are a part. BRIC’s youth education work primarily takes place beyond the walls of BRIC House; our teaching artists work directly with students to channel their creativity into unique visual art and media objects, highlighting their agency and culminating in an exhibition that brings together our community of school partners from throughout Brooklyn under one roof.
For three decades, BRIC has been a pioneer in providing meaningful art education to public school students throughout Brooklyn. BRIC’s Education program is distinguished by the involvement of professional contemporary artists, who bring their individual studio practices into the classroom via in-school residencies that introduce new ways of learning through innovative fine art techniques, concepts, and creative thinking.
These residencies have culminated in lively, thought-provoking exhibitions presented at BRIC that offer students the opportunity to see their own work and that of their peers mounted in a professional gallery setting, breaking down barriers between youth and institutional art spaces.
