Temporary Landscapes is a visual reflection on the landscape changed by man and nature.
About
Following the long-term process of building the S5 Expressway between Poznań and Bydgoszcz in Poland – part of a national road construction program– Anka Gregorczyk and Łukasz Szamałek have produced an extensive photographic project, documenting several years of construction and revolution in the shifting landscape. Construction coincided with the hurricane that took place few years back and devastated huge areas of land and forest. Observing the complete resetting of the space along the previous main DK5 route and the newly built S5, the artists undertook this project as a form of fieldwork in an attempt to capture the temporary topographies around them.
These photographs evidence serious changes of land at the hands of the construction and the impact on the natural environment by the new infrastructure. Individually, these photographs evidence a rough transformation but, collectively, they show the total ‘man-altered landscape’ and invite us to observe the stories that are left in its wake.
Organised by Alicja Kaczmarek, Alice Reed, and Richard Short, with thanks to Fotspot Association and Galeria Centrala.
Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
