Part of the Localism series of public programmes, this day-school explores some of the recent literary movements of Teesside.
About
Consisting of workshops, talks, screenings, and debates led by local writers, it questions:
- Why has Teesside produced so many poets and so few novelists?
- Is small-press publishing on Teesside a strength or does it disguise the area’s relative invisibility nationally?
- Is there a Teesside way of writing or a way of writing about Teesside?
Localism signalled the re-launch of the gallery as the useful museum in October 2015. The exhibition featured artworks, artefacts, archival materials and personal documents, with the people and institutions of Teesside proposing and/or lending them.
We are continuing the ethos and process of the show through a quarterly series of user-generated public events that consider historical narratives, imageries and making traditions in Teesside, operating as tools for learning and contributing to positioning creativity at the heart of society.
The day is presented by Andy Croft, Mark Robinson, Marilyn Longstaff, Trevor Teasdel, Val Magee, Pauline Plummer, Andy Willoughby and Bob Beagrie.
