AboutFiona Banner has been invited to create the next installation in Tate Britain's annual series of Duveen Commissions, supported by Sotheby's. Her new work, created especially for the neoclassical Duveen galleries at the heart of Tate Britain, will be unveiled on 28 June 2010.
Encompassing sculpture, performance, drawing and film, Fiona Banner's work often reflects a tension between a private, internal world and the public, social realm. Language is the regular device through which she explores this territory such as her word-scapes or âstill films' vast unedited commentaries that relayed in her own words the action from feature films for which she first became known. More recently, Banner has addressed the nude, transcribing into words her candid observations of a life model while her series of Full Stops, made intermittently since 1998, punctuate both Banner's work and the space in which they exhibited, representing a breakdown, or gap, in understanding.
