An open air performance of the artists in show at Tank Festival 2019 will claim upgrading the setting of El Tanque Cultural Space: Tank Festival is an art festival in the Canary Islands at its fifth edition in 2019. Most of its events are held at El Tanque Cultural Space of Santa Cruz de Tenerife - Tank Tenerife and linked to the history of this iconic venue, part of the industrial heritage of the city. In 1997, this former oil tank from the 1950s was preserved on site after the CEPSA refinery was dismantled to make way for new residential developments. Its adaptive reuse completed in 1998 with a design by Fernando Menis, enabled keeping its essence and original aspect of a container.
During the 5th Tank Festival, on July 6, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. in the wasteland that currently surrounds the El Tanque Cultural Space of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the art works of over 30 artists will be mounted on turrets made of wooden chairs to claim in this way that this Cultural Space needs to be supported with a solid program and fitting public financing; and to remind the regional government that its setting needs to be upgraded.
The art works that will be put up on the chairs have been selected through a public call launched by the non profit Asociación Amigos del Espacio Cultural El Tanque and are made by: Volha Belevets , Nebras Turdidae, Leodesinquieto, Paz Barreiro, Jose Manuel Carrasco, Paloma Hurtado, Maica Luis, Elia Estevez Noda, Emma Jane Bach, Guillermo Vazquez Zamarbide, Lucilla Bellinii and Magalita Brincat, Claudia B Esquivel, Jose Seigar, Arancha Gómez Iriarte, Irene Morales , Desiree Omar, Émili Bermúdez, Nazareth Hernandez Gutierrez, Jose Piñas Pisaca, Cristi Pérez, Raquel García, Julia Afonso Chillón, Fernando Miñarro, Fernando Lorenzo, Jose Saucedo, Daniel Hernández Brito, Marina Valls Mir, Elba Fragoso, Brigitte Fassin, Pendientera, Nuria del Pino, Pura Marque, Romen Trujillo, Felix Dario Ruggeri.
Titled `El verano de nuestras vidas´ (The Summer of Our Lives´), this exhibition-performance will cover all disciplines to represent summer and features among its participants a proud 67% female presence. The action will be followed by Paloma Hurtado's performance dance and a Dj party.
The event is public and free of charge.
