‘Tangled Roads: Journeys of the West Coast’ was born from two individual moments of painting, in which the artists explore sexuality, colour, space and art history. “Sauntering down the coast of west Scotland, we meandered through ancient churches, winding lanes, encountering tides of all sorts allowing our minds to alchemise images. We let the air fill our lungs and at the frontier where the sea rises up to greet us we feel our voices thrown by the wind and welcome in these wilder lands., feeling welcomed by the journeys of these wilder lands. We explored cravasses and waterfalls, looked over the land and to the water through the sky and allowed these images and experiences to concoct in our souls.”
Alex Goodman is an artist whose work explores coastal communities and the sea, often while sailing on old wooden boats. Alex studied Performance Writing at the late Dartington College of Arts and has continued to write poetry but now seeks to explore the idea of poetry as a multifaceted experience, seeking to create visual poetry through performance, print, events, happenings and painting. Rose Arbuthnott is an Edinburgh Fine Art graduate whose multidisciplinary work encompasses fine art, design and performance. Rose, co-founder of ‘The Owl Barn’ Artist residency in Gloucestershire, successfully set up a community space for artists, makers and thinkers to develop their own creative practice as well as possibilities to engage with local community groups. She is also daughter of Vanessa who has recently opened her new fabric design showroom in the centre of Cirencester.
