Join to Patrick Thomas, Marc Morro, Luis Eslava and Domestic Data Streamers on Costa brava. Five-day immersive workshops, plus two days of exhibitions, conferences and concerts, will take place again from August 26 to September 1, 2019 in Portbou.

About

This year the Colectivo Frontera is ready to launch the second edition of the event with the intention of connecting people who love design with relevant international professionals.

Portbou is a magical place on the Costa Brava, with an inspiring nature, where you can celebrate summer and connect, share, experiment and have fun with other designers and with four big names on the scene: Patrick Thomas, Marc Morro - Luis Eslava and Domestic Data Streamers.

The participants in the workshops will present the results of their work in a new edition, the Festa del Grafisme, the event that for more than a decade brings together and celebrates the alternative design scene.

A weekend of experiences, exhibitions, music, unexpected connections, children's activities, surprises ... completely free for all attendees.

WORKSHOPS (August 26 - August 30):

  • PATRICK THOMAS – SYNTHESIS

Patrick Thomas is a graphic artist, author and educator. He studied at the Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art in London, before moving to Barcelona in 1991, where he founded laVista studio. Working with a wide range of disciplines for national and international clients, the studio quickly established itself as one of the most influential and respected in Spain. In 2011, Patrick Thomas settles in Berlin, where he will open his second screen printing workshop. Since 2013, the international iconographer teaches at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design.

Workshop: the workshop will provide a space for experimentation and collaboration investigating the dialogue between analogue and digital technologies. Content will be generated by combining traditional and digital processes using generative software and output on key sites in the local environment using projectors.

  • MARC MORRO + LUIS ESLAVA – SMUGGLING

At 18 Marc Morro moved to Barcelona to study Industrial Design and -after 10 months in New York- he started working at the Villarrosàs agency. He does not know how, but that led him to found the gallery otroscosas de Villarrosàs. But Marc's passion was to design furniture. This is how the AOO store opened with Oriol Villar and Clara Quintana. Now he produces in his Poblenou studio, he likes to work and works a lot. Without pretentions. Without complications. Enjoy everyday things and normality and listen to movies in the blind version while he works.

After studying at the Royal College of Art in London, working with Camper and living in Japan for a while, Luis Eslava decided to move to Spain in 2008 and set up his studio there. Luis approaches design from an integral point of view. For him, "a designer must be able to propose a wide range of solutions" and "Rethink everyday life". This is the reason why their study is aimed at global projects, while participating in all productive stages.

Workshop: it’s very simple. During a week we will dedicate ourselves to design and build objects and systems to be able to pass by land, sea or air large amounts of illegal material, without being seen, in the neighboring country.

  • DOMESTIC DATA STREAMERS – PEOPLE, DATA & OTHER LOVE STORIES

Domestic Data Streamers is a collective of architects, psychologists, designers and scientists from Barcelona that develops new methods of data interpretation. They create data facilities in real time, interacting with people and what surrounds them. With a great experience in digital media and interaction design, Domestic Data Streamers plays between the limits of art, science and sociology to approach the world of data in human way and connect people with information.

Workshop: we are going to look for the stories that are hidden in the streets, the beaches and the tiles of Portbou. We will place Portbou on a physical map and draw those routes that only exist in the stories of the people. We will ask for the recipes that are counted and not written. We will look in which places the life of Portbou is visualized due to its wear. We will talk about data, people, peoples and borders. And we will make visible, the invisible.

FESTA DEL GRAFISME (August 31 - September 1)

Since its first edition in 2008, Festa del Grafisme has been affirmed as an annual meeting to learn and share, open to professionals, students and interested public to reflect on the communicative and social function of all disciplines of creation.

From a humanist perspective, honest and calm, unstressed from the usual stress in professional environments, every year La Festa surprises its audience with unconventional content and innovative formats.

La Festa chooses Portbou as a place, because it offers a quiet environment and because of its border, on the margins between art and communication, between culture and business, between inspiration and reflection, between the city and nature.
