Talking to Stuff is an evening centred around translating material to emotion, and exploring it as both presence and a process — something dynamic, shaped by space and interaction.
About
Through two art and sound sessions guided by emerging artists Franklin Collins, Kairi Tokoro, and Sam Murphy, we will reconsider how we look at and engage with the material world, understanding that perception is as much about the viewer as it is about the object.
Session 1 by Kairi Tokoro with Sam Murphy — Sound to Form
The group will be equipped with drawing materials and asked to instantly react to Kairi's experimental soundscape and visualise it on paper. Here, listening is not a passive act, but one of resonance. The soundscape will be improvised and constantly shift in influence by the space and emotions of the evening, performer and listeners working together in a single act.
Session 2 by Franklin Collins — Material to Words
Between his sculptures, poetry, and video piece, Franklin asks for your honest interaction. In this session, we will introduce different materialities and ask the group to translate their feel into words of poetry or prose. What you do with the result, whether you want to pass it your left, read it to your group, or fold it to bring it home, is up to you.
