Talk and Networking: An evening with Layla Sailor

Acclaimed fashion photographer Layla Sailor joins us to deliver a talk on her work, followed by an 'in conversation' session delving into issues surrounding her practice, the balance of commercial and personal work and the development of her career since graduating from University.

After completing a degree in Photography at MMU in 2005, Layla has continued to combine commercial fashion photography with fine art and filmmaking, receiving an honourable mention at the 2009, 2013, 2014 IPA Awards and the Grand Prize for Art Takes Paris in 2013.

Inspired by cinematography and religious iconography, Layla creates dreamlike, surrealist works that reference traditional crafts, humour, sexuality and politics, and in 2012-14 worked with www.pussyriot.org and Artists Support Ukraine to produce shareable protest imagery.

She has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows including the Cornerhouse, Printemps Paris, Nouvel Organon Paris, Harvey Nichols, and Red Bull studios London. She is currently based in Manchester, works both in the UK and internationally and is a visiting lecturer at UCLan, University of Salford and Stockport College.

This event is a unique opportunity to hear Layla talk about her work, and to gain a better understanding of the world of commercial fashion photography from a photographer who has developed her own distinct style, both in her self-commissioned work and through high-profile commercial fashion commissions.
