Deb Chapman solo exhibition of works from 2016
About
Born in a small mining village in the south Wales valleys in the 1950's I have lived most of my life in Wales, apart from a few years working in London. A negative experience in my school years derailed me from pursuing my love of painting professionally so after careers in the public, private and third sectors I am now a semi-retired, primarily self-taught emerging artist. I access some online courses and have started working collaboratively with an established artist
I'm still finding my voice and enjoy exploring the worlds around me, both seen and 'unseen.' I am interested in the transitions, edges and overlaps that we move through each day, season and life journey. I draw from the Celtic Christian heritage in Wales and may use sacred text or poetry as sources of inspiration. Often my work has strong colour and contrasts with a dynamic feel interrupted by moments of quiet reflection. I am increasingly moving along a road towards abstract expressionism.
