SUMMARY
The intention of this curated series of sustainable artworks is to engage the public senses, heart and mind. The exhibition is a continuation of a dialogue on Sustainability in Art that started at Koppel Project on Oxford Street in July 2021 between artist- curator Ema Mano Epps and Jyoti Bharwani with artist Liz Elton and guests.
The exhibiting artists share sustainability as a way of life, a collaborative exchange with materials, research, information and each-other. Sustainability is about relationships and exchange, openness and change, aligned with nature and universal values.

Sophie Mason

Sophie is a visual artist and food grower. For over a decade her work has explored different approaches to the natural world, working and thinking within the intersections of ecology, climate breakdown, motherhood, health and gender. Her works are shaped by and from the landscape around her.

Elizabeth Rose Langford

Elizabeth’s paintings serve to suggest another way of seeing and engaging with the natural world. Her personal motivations are to draw attention to the current global crisis, working with organic matter to discuss unrelenting growth in the name of “progress” and humanities consequential dissociation from nature.

Joe Bucklow

‘Over the past year my work has been inspired by my own surroundings, exploration of the North Yorkshire Moors - attempting to capture their essence. I aim to encourage the viewer to dwell upon the forgotten and mundane elements of our surroundings whilst elevating the sense of solitude and the peace found in the seclusion of nature in uncertain times.

Anna Bower

‘For me, the creative process starts by being immersed in nature, I take long meandering walks…In my practice, I am seeking to convey the beauty of transience and of decay in nature, and to get people to reflect on the mystery and fragility of the world around us. Most of my work is made from recycled paper.’

Jyoti Bharwani

Jyoti draws on Eastern philosophies and New Materialist theories, both of which emphasise the fluid and interdependent connections between humans, material and the planet.

Ema Mano Epps

In nature I feel infinity and harmony beyond my flesh. Through curious play and alchemy, the foraged and recycled allow contradictions to balance. Curating the power of vulnerable and effeminate aesthetic, open and grounded my practice aims to disarm dominance, instead embrace, lift and connect.

Mato Enki

Mato Enki's work repurposes existing analyses systems and medias aiming alongside research measuring how our senses are being diluted through the distribution of goods, the effect of living in densely populated societies and the social pressures created within them. His varied mediums highlight the material relationship we have with nature and our in-action related to sustainability, observing our relationship between the material world, the natural world, and our senses - the way and means in which we judge reality.
