Symmetry's Portal is an exhibition of work by Margarida Sardinha. Margarida's practice has been focused on concepts of symmetry and optical illusion over a prolonged period.
The exhibition is a wide photographic survey of the Alhambra in Granada encorporating beautiful three dimensional sculptue. This photographic assemblage is used by Margarida to address issues of symmetry.
The work consists of both three-dimensional photographic works in large format, as well as a film that constitute the showcase. The eight selected worksand the film Symmetry's Portal which comprise the exhibition were devised around mathematical descriptions by Keith Critchlow - where the study of Islamic patterns is analysed via metaphysical and cosmological principles - Marcus du Sautoy and Roger Penrose.
