About
An exhibition of photography by Susanne Ramsenthaler and Iain Stewart.Bloom, Susanne Ramsenthaler's series of photograms are less overt depictions of jellyfish as they are indications of a visceral state. Similarly, Flux, her series of water photograms hints at an aquatic environment, while at the same time suggests alternative spaces. These visually chaotic and organic photograms are unique and cannot be repeated or changed in scale, as there is no camera and therefore no negative. The exhibition presents work from both series.
ain Stewart's large-scale photographs of land sea and sky have been exhibited widely in Europe and the USA over the last 10 years. The works included in this exhibition move from lush colourfield abstractions to the pounding dark skies and overtly Romantic references of his recent Cape Wrath and 58º North series. Much of Stewart's landscape work suggests a journey, but one where there is "no place of arrival ... I want it to work on a number of levels - if you want to take it as a journey from dawn to dusk, that's ok. But it's not meant to be limited in narrative terms⦠My process is one of simplification ...like a poem, taking out words and taking out and seeing how far you can go before it stops having meaning?"
