Surrey Sculptors launch their 2018 ‘Understanding Sculpture’
programme with a lecture by renowned sculptor
Simon Buchanan
About
Surrey-based sculptor Simon Buchanan has been invited by the Surrey Sculpture Society to launch their 2018 ‘Understanding Sculpture’ programme of events by presenting the Society’s first Lecture of the year on Wednesday, 21st March. The Lecture will take place at The Cass Art Space at the Cass Art Shop in Kingston-upon-Thames at 7pm.
Simon Buchanan works mainly in stone and has been commissioned to create many large public and private sculptures, including a memorial for the Royal Sussex Regiment, hospital centrepieces and work for the Royal Family. His work varies from figurative to abstract and he is interested in stylised forms that: ’catch the essence without getting caught up in the outward form’.
Simon was also the chief organiser of the highly successful international art festival, Art in Action until it ended in 2016 and he will talk about his plans to follow on from it in the future.
Tickets for the SSS Simon Buchanan Lecture are £5 and are free to SSS members and students and are available from: Janet Morton, SSS Lecture Programme Organiser at janetvictoria@icloud.com or 07946 478046
