The Gallery@ The Civic is delighted to be working with the Arts Council Collection as part of their SELECT scheme. SELECT is a programme that invites galleries and museums to select exhibitions and displays from the Arts Council Collection. Jointly curated by The Gallery@ The Civic and Barnsley painter Dr Dale Holmes, the exhibition brings together a selection of painting objects by emerging and mid-career artists that sit alongside pieces from established artists loaned from the Arts Council Collection. The works on display all explore the concept of ‘surface' through the use of materials, painting techniques and abstraction. Featured artists include David Batchelor, Peter Davies, Ian Davenport, Gary Hume, DJ Simpson, Richard Woods, Jenifer Douglas, Jacob Dahlgren, Dale Holmes, Paul Merrick and Julie Newton.
