Sunset on Somerdale — A Photography Exhibition by David Calvin

Capturing the environment around him has been David Calvin's passion from an early age. With a background in design, his photographic work has evolved with his personal and commercial experiences, latterly taking on an architectural and industrial direction. Bristol-based, his local surroundings provide much of the inspiration for his work, being rich in both industrial heritage and architectural diversity. Sunset on Somerdale is an exhibition of photography of one such location; the former Cadbury's/Fry's Somerdale factory at Keynsham near Bristol. By special arrangement with Cadbury Ltd, David undertook a project to document the factory during the final months of its nearly century-long operational history before its closure in January 2011. The project was an exploration of the site's distinctive buildings and feature-rich environs, many of which were leant a new perspective by a variety of lighting and weather conditions. With the recent announcement that many of these buildings may be demolished as part of the site's eventual redevelopment, the images from this project will help to visually preserve the legacy of Somerdale, an iconic industrial landmark which has been a part of the lives of generations of local people.
