In February 2024, Peterlee in County Durham will host the North East satellite event of the International Biennale of Non-Objective Art.
About
The impressive list of exhibiting artists are based in the region or have strong links to the area and have been asked to create work in response to 'Sunny Blunts', the unique housing estate which Victor Pasmore designed alongside his famous Apollo Pavilion in Peterlee.
Set across two spaces in Peterlee town centre, the preview will also feature a collaboration with independent tape label, distro and gig promoter Industrial Coast. Specialising in experimental noise the Middlesbrough based initiative has roots in Peterlee. For the preview on February 2nd, they will be inviting multidisciplinary artist Richie Culver to perform a specially commissioned sound piece alongside a limited edition cassette release, a video short by Rachel Deakin and Stuart Langley and spoken word from Bobby Benjamin.
This exhibition will be part of the 7th edition of the Biennale, which takes place in France and welcomes a cohort of linked locations in Europe, North America and Australia.
Curated by Deb Covell and Theresa Poulton.
