The [Sun-penetrations] series show iPhone photography and videographs of beams of sun, which enter externally into the inner space, through windows, curtains, doors, glass, holes or creaks. The sunbeams in the series are perceived to me as something conflicting; on the one hand something positive, nurturing, warming, spiritual and comforting, they can remind of some form of meditation. And on the other hand exhume feelings of melancholy, because of the presence of life through the sun penetrations, which move up in full stop on the opposite, something that stands still.
By the light penetrating through somewhere, into something that stands still (physically or psychologically) and is in a vacuum, without movement, and is because of this in a pitiful state. The photographs of the usually ephemeral sun-penetrations are the painful awareness of this. For me the series contains therefore of contradictions; because of the comforting effect and tactile warmth the sunbeams themselves give and at the same time the profound feelings of loneliness they can denote by showing up. The beautiful radiating lights full of life are there and just because of this with their presence of illuminating the other side of life; floor, matter, objects in a state of halt, lost of progress and therefore death and the awareness of this.
