About

Intaglio etching is an alchemical process with a touch of magic about it. A lot of the processes we use remain very similar to those that Rembrandt would have used in the 17th century. On this course you will initially be introduced to the intaglio processes of drypoint, hard ground and soft ground as well as alternative ways to print your plate, using selective wiping and rolling and adding a chine-collé collage to your plate. We will then look at how to create two-plate prints using both your etched plates and monoprints, to create painterly and multi-faceted images. Alongside this you will be encouraged to develop and expand your own ideas and imagery. Detailed handouts will be given for each process demonstrated. The course is suitable for both beginner and experienced printmakers alike, as you will be given individual guidance throughout the week with hands on advice and feedback given each day. By the end of the week, you will have created a series of original prints.
